I've really been enjoying yoga recently. It is really cultivating a connection between my breath, body and mind. A sort of awareness that wasn't there before but has enriched the quality of my being.
I made a promise to myself that I am going to do at least 10 minutes of yoga everyday.
Some days, I am not going to lie...I just don't feel like doing it. So I end up doing a bedtime flow... something easy. The important thing is that you show up to your yoga mat.
One thing that I've noticed in my short time practicing yoga is that it really improves your body mechanics. You will notice that you will move more freely and more pain-free after just a few sessions.
I've also noticed that certain yoga flows sometimes induce a current in the body. I'm not sure if that's what it actually is but it certainly feels as though a current is sometimes running up and down your arm, spine or finger tips. It's an interesting sensation.
Sometimes you feel sensations that you've never felt before..... Makes you wonder what else have you been oblivious to. It was there all along...we just have to embrace it and invite it in.
Little aches have decreased. I've become more aware of compensatory movement I was unconsciously making to avoid movements that would hurt me. It makes you a lot more aware of your body and posture. For example, when I bend down to a pick something up I wasn't aware that my left leg would pivot outward ever so slightly...it is a compensatory movement my body decided to make because I had a back injury many years ago that lingers. It's these little things.
I feel like there's a positive impact on mental health as well. After every yoga session I feel very calm. There is a strong sense of inner peace. This is definitely something that I will continue to add to my daily routine.
There is a 30 Day Yoga Journey starting next month with Adriene. I am not sure if I will do it because I feel like I don't have the fundamentals down yet. Not sure what it entails but I shall ponder on it for a bit.
